Return HomeHanul Journeys began with a simple observation: many travelers seeking meaningful cultural experiences in Korea were drawn to the country's Buddhist temples but lacked reliable guidance on how to approach these sacred spaces respectfully and authentically.
Founded in 2018 by cultural bridge-builders with deep connections to both international travel and Korean Buddhist communities, we set out to create pathways for genuine cultural exchange. Our founders spent years developing relationships with temple communities across Korea, learning what both visitors and monastic communities needed for meaningful interactions.
We recognized that temple stays offered something rare in modern travel: opportunities for stillness, reflection, and connection with traditions maintained over centuries. However, language barriers, cultural unfamiliarity, and logistical challenges prevented many interested travelers from accessing these experiences.
Today, we work with a carefully selected network of temple communities in Korea's most beautiful mountainous regions. Each temple partnership reflects our commitment to cultural sensitivity, authentic practice, and mutual respect between visitors and host communities. We serve as cultural interpreters, helping travelers understand the context and significance of their experiences while ensuring temple communities feel comfortable welcoming international guests.

Rather than pursuing volume, we maintain small group sizes and invest time in pre-departure preparation, ensuring every participant arrives ready to engage thoughtfully with Korean Buddhist culture. We work exclusively with temples that welcome international visitors and have experience hosting temple stay programs. Each partnership involves ongoing communication about visitor preparation and cultural protocol.
Our guides combine language skills with deep cultural knowledge. All have studied Korean Buddhism extensively and maintain respectful relationships with monastic communities. They serve as cultural interpreters, not just translators.
Every participant receives detailed orientation materials covering temple etiquette, daily routines, cultural context, and practical preparations. This ensures comfort and appropriate engagement from day one.
We limit groups to 8-12 participants maximum. This allows for personalized attention, meaningful interactions with temple communities, and maintains the contemplative atmosphere that makes these experiences valuable.
Our team remains available throughout your journey for questions or assistance. We provide 24/7 emergency contact during programs and follow up afterward to address any remaining questions about your experience.

Min-jung studied Korean Buddhist art history and practiced meditation at several temples before becoming a cultural guide. She excels at making complex traditions accessible to international visitors.
